From shelter house to mountain hotel — Tiefenbach since 1860
The history of Hotel Tiefenbach is inseparable from Furka Pass. For more than 160 years this house has welcomed travellers, mountaineers and adventurers.
The beginnings
1860
The shelter house 'Alpenlaus' becomes the Tiefenbach inn. At the time, the Furka Pass road was an important but demanding mule track across the Alps.
1910
The house receives the name 'Hotel Tiefengletscher', a reference to the once mighty glacier that shaped the Tiefenbach valley and reached almost to the hotel.
1921
The first PostBus crosses Furka Pass and a new era begins. Tourists, travellers and mountaineers can now reach Tiefenbach more easily.
1940
The hotel returns to its original name: Hotel Tiefenbach. Under this name it has been known and valued throughout Switzerland ever since.
The hosts
Until 2006, Josef and Gritli Inderkum ran the hotel for 27 years with heart and passion. They shaped the house for a generation.
From 2006, Madeleine and Hansruedi Tresch took over. Hansruedi, a passionate crystal hunter himself, brought his impressive collection and turned the restaurant into a small mineral museum.
Since December 2025
Tiefenbach AG, with Madeleine and Hansruedi Tresch and Al Breach, leads the hotel into the future with the same spirit of hospitality that has lived in these walls for over 160 years.
